So in 1903 she created The Landlord’s Game as a way to show the devastating economic impact monopolies had on a citizen and the economy. She believed in a single tax theory and wanted to design a tool to explain and teach the theory. Unmarried and a political activist, she wanted a way to get her message to the people. Lizzy Magie (1866-1948) was someone who abhorred monopolies. It wasn’t until a dinner party 30 years after it’s invention that Monopoly rolled its way into American culture. And while it’s modern history as a beloved traditional board game is well known, the first 30 years of Monopoly’s existence is one of almost complete disinterest. The publisher’s close relationships with entertainment companies, including Hasbro, helped to drive this valuation.Shrouded in myth, mystery, and a fair bit of deceit, Monopoly is probably the world’s most recognized board game. Last week, Scopely was acquired by Savvy Games Group for $4.9 billion. The company published Yahtzee With Buddies in 2017 and Scrabble Go in 2020. This is Scopely’s third adaptation of a Hasbro game. “With ‘Monopoly Go!,’ we can unite the worldwide community of Monopoly fans in truly unprecedented ways.”
“The original game has been adapted for hundreds of destinations around the world, pioneering a localized approach that helps players connect with and celebrate the unique character of the places they call home as well as learn about new cultures,” said Cynthia Williams, president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Games said. Players can collect and trade stickers to complete their albums. Monopoly Go! also encourages players to be social through its sticker collection feature. Meanwhile, Bank Heist and Shut Down are competitive, letting one player raid another’s vault or knock down their landmarks.
Community Chest is cooperative, allowing players to work together to unlock rewards.
The game also introduces mini-games to expand upon the board game.
